2012 Scholar - Tanisha Howard

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar presented West Side Leadership Academy student Tanisha Howard with a four-year $4,000 college scholarship on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at an Indianapolis banquet honoring outstanding minority high school seniors from across the state.

 

Howard was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and Girl Scouts of America. She served as a member of Student Council, including the positions of Secretary and Vice President. She was co-captain of the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl Team and was a peer counselor for the National African American Youth Initiative on Health and Policy. She served as a volunteer at Spring Mill Health Campus and Timberview Nursing Home. She also volunteered for Soles for Souls and was a server for the Thanksgiving Food Giveaway.

Howard participated in pre-collegiate research at Purdue University, where she now attends.
