U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar presented Decatur Discovery Academy student Anna Scott with a four-year $20,000 college scholarship on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at an Indianapolis banquet honoring outstanding minority high school seniors from across the state.
This sixteen-year-old Lugar Scholar has demonstrated her leadership abilities as President of the Prom Committee, a Team Leader in the Robotics Club, and as the Technology Consultant for her church Food Pantry. During her sophomore year, she volunteered as the Music Director for the 18th Commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide. Not only was she in charge of the music, dances, and songs for the event, but she had to teach the song lyrics in the Rwandan language!
Anna serves her community as a volunteer Math Tutor and Mentor for younger disadvantaged children. She also volunteers in her church’s Sunday Morning Café. Oh, and she happens to hold a red belt in karate.
Anna plans to attend either Rose Hulman or the University of Evansville and study Actuarial Science.
