U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar presented Anderson High School student Cathy Taylor with a four-year $4,000 college scholarship on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at an Indianapolis banquet honoring outstanding minority high school seniors from across the state.
Cathy Taylor represents a true “first” for our organization. Cathy is our first second generation Lugar Scholar! Her father, Myron, was selected as a Lugar Scholar in 1984. We are excited to celebrate this milestone with the Taylor family.
Cathy was a member of the National Honor Society and was chosen as “Miss Green,” the student with the most school spirit, in 2013. This young woman is musically gifted. She was Section Leader in her school Marching Band, as well as a Section Leader in the Concert Band/Percussion Ensemble. She has participated in the State Solo/Ensemble Competition and has received 4 Gold Ratings. Additionally, she was a member of the IMEA State Honor Band, the IBA All District Band, and the Jazz Band, and the Pep Band.
Cathy also teaches Private Percussion lessons and volunteers as a member of the Veterans’ Day Band. She has received multiple Certificates of Academic Excellence and has been recognized with an Outstanding Musicianship Award.
Cathy plans to attend Ball State University and would like to pursue a career in Music Media Production.
