2014 Scholar - Claire Apuan

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar presented Signature School student Claire Apuan with a four-year $4,000 college scholarship on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at an Indianapolis banquet honoring outstanding minority high school seniors from across the state.


Claire demonstrated leadership as an active member of the Student Council, the Vice President of the Key Club, and as a member of the Teen Advisory Council. Jessica also served as the Fundraising Head for the National Honor Society. As a participant in Teen Court, she took on the roles of defense, prosecution, judge, and bailiff. In 2013, she was the Project Manager of Underwater Robotics for the Engineering Experience at MIT.


Claire is a servant leader, having participated with several volunteer organizations. She has served as the Head of the Books for Africa Book Drive for Global Volunteers, has worked at the Ronald McDonald House, and even done construction work on a church mission trip. At the time of the banquet, since 2010, this outstanding young woman logged over 651 hours of community service with 32 different organizations.


Claire has plans to attend Purdue University where she will study biomedical engineering.
