U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar presented Valparaiso High School student Jacob Wierman with a four-year $4,000 college scholarship on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at an Indianapolis banquet honoring outstanding minority high school seniors from across the state.
Jacob earned honors as a National Merit Commended Scholar and as a National Achievement Scholar Semifinalist. Jacob was also a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club.
This musically talented young man served as Drum Major in the Marching Band for the last three years. He was the first chair saxophone player in the Concert Band, the Lead Alto in the Jazz Band, and Co-Leader of the Pep Band. He also performed in the Pit Orchestra and volunteered for a Benefit Jazz Group.
Jacob has further demonstrated his leadership skills as a participant on his Valparaiso High School's Model UN Team.
Jacob plans to study Music Composition and combine that with a major in Science or English at either Butler and Valparaiso University.
